Nova Scotia born, Toronto-based drummer, Will Fisher has been named a “bright light on the cusp of a great career” by CBC Radio. Known for his musical versatility, Will has toured extensively throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, performing and recording with artists including Aidan Knight, Barbra Lica, Coco Love Alcorn, Don Thompson, Joel Miller, Joshua Van Tassel, Jim Lewis, Kieran Overs, Kirk MacDonald, Mike Downes, Mikko Hilden, Nancy Walker, Paul Tynan, Ted Quinlan, The Woodhouse, and Zachary Lucky to name a few.
Will is the recipient of the CBC Galaxie Rising Star Award and Chico Berardi Award (Nova Scotia Talent Trust), and holds a Masters of Music from the University of Louisville which he received on full-scholarship as a member of the Jamey Aebersold International Masters Quartet. While in Louisville, he had the opportunity to perform with Eddie Gomez, Lou Donaldson, Antonio Hart, and the late Eugene “Snooky” Young. Before that, he studied at Toronto’s Humber College where he earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Performance and was selected to perform with guest artists including Terence Blanchard, Chris Potter, and Kurt Elling.
As leader, Will’s debut album Portage has been named “an extremely satisfying moment of musicianship” (All About Jazz) and described as “a modern mainstream jazz disk – stressing lyricism, tweaks on traditional forms and grooves, and the personalities of its players” (Ottawa Citizen). It was nominated for ECMA Jazz Recording of the Year and MNS Jazz Recording of the Year and features bassist Mike Downes, trumpeter Jon Challoner, Guitarist Mikko Hilden, and special guest pianists Nancy Walker and Matt Giffin.
